Setelah beberapa hari flasdisk berkelana colok sana colok sini, betapa terkejutnya saat mau saya pakai. Lho kok isinya cuma shortcut semua, file-file penting hilang tak terlihat, sempat bingung juga. Akhirnya dengan kembali bertanya-tanya ke Mbahnya Google ketemulah penyebabnya. Ternyata Flasdisknya terinfeksi worm RANDOM8 (dikenali oleh PCMAV).

Random8 ini merupakan salah satu WORM yang baru ngetren dan beredar luas saat ini dengan program VB tanpa pack dan icon standart VB. Kemampuan POLYMORPHIC worm ini membuat bermacam antivirus mengenalinya dengan nama VB-PP, Vobfus, Poly Agent dan lain-lain.

Seperti biasa, worm ini menyebar melalui flashdisk. Cara mengetahui bila flasdisk terinfeksi cukup mudah, antara lain :

• Semua folder hiden
• Muncul banyak shortcut yang namanya dihiden serta ada shorcut folder Dokumen, Musik dan lain-lain.
• Kalau diteliti ada empat buah file yaitu Autorun.inf, dua buah file .exe, dan file .dll

Setelah puas bertanya kepada Mbahnya Google, langsung saja flasdisk saya scan dengan AV lokal warna hijau. Apalagi kalau bukan SMADAV yang pada tanggal 7 oktober kemaren mengeluarkan versi terbarunya yaitu SMADAV REV 8.3 dimana ada penambahan database 40 varian virus baru. Ternyata memang benar, file-file penting saya disembunyikan semua oleh worm random8 ini. Setelah selesai dibersihkan dan dimunculkan kembali file yang hiden flasdisk saya normal lagi.

Peter Vreugdenhil, peneliti celah keamanan dari Belanda dan Nils dari  Jerman, telah berhasil menembus keamanan dalam IE8 di Windows 7. Mereka telah mononaktifkan DEP (Data Execution Prevention) dan ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) yang merupakan benteng pertahanan Windows 7.

Kedua-duanya mendapatkan hadiah masing-masing 10 ribu dolar AS pada saat kontes hacking Pwn2Own di Canada setelah sukses menembus keamanan Windows 7.

Dengan bersenjatakan kombinasi dua buah eksploit untuk membungkam ASLR dan DEP, kemudian menembus Internet Explorer 8. Vreugdenhil hanya memerlukan waktu sekitar 2 menit untuk menembus sistem keamanan Windows 7 dengan menggunakan 2 exploit itu, jika hanya 1 exploit memerlukan waktu sekitar 60 menit.

Sepertinya Intel melesat jauh daripada AMD dengan mengeluarkan prosesor berbasis 6 inti dan bisa diupgrade menjadi 12 inti.

This CD is meant to "autoboot" meaning that when the CD is placed in the tray, and your computer is rebooted or turned off/on, the system will boot to the OS located on the CD. You may have to change some BIOS settings if your computer does not look to the CD before the HD for system booting. You may also have to press a key during boot to bring up a menu to choose your boot device.

Note: My philosophy is that this is mainly a Rescue CD, and not a replacement Operating System. As such, some apps will almost certainly not be updated as they perform well in this environment, and updating will only serve to add bloat and therefore decrease CD space for additional apps. Examples include, but are not limited to Nero & WinZIP. Additionally, the menu system is purposefully not alphabetized - it is highly customized, and in the order I want it.

• requires a minimum of 128MB to run a minimal amount of apps. The more RAM you have, the greater likelihood that all apps will work correctly. I have 512MB on an old Dell PIII 500mHz and all apps work. If an app doesn't work, there's a good chance you don't have a enough memory.
  
• Some apps will simply not work exactly as they do in regular Windows. Just accept it - it is a consequence of PE, which is NOT a replacement operating system.
  
• Colors look bad on screen? - this is usually due to onboard graphics, often Intel Extreme Onboard Graphics. There is no fix Crying or Very sad.
  
• One of these days, I'll get around to writing a tutorial on how to update the AV definitions. It's not that difficult for "power" users, but may be a little daunting for those with limited experience.

To fully appreciate miniPE's power, you should boot FROM the CD - you may have to change a BIOS setting to have your computer's first boot device to be the CD drive. Alternately, some newer Dells require you to press F12 during boot to have an option menu appear that will allow you to boot from the CD.
